Quote of the day...

"Today’s teenagers are more materialistic and less interested in working hard than the baby boomers were in their teens, according to a new study. But sorry, boomers, the researchers say it’s probably your fault for creating a culture that breeds narcissism and entitlement."  Amy Langfield, TODAY contributor

$25 Gun Tax in Cook County

So, Ms. Cook County Board President, how are you planing on taxing the guns being bought by gangbangers and such on the streets? Aren't these the "taxpayers" who need to be "paying" for their crimes, rather than the law-abiding citizens...?

Bogus war heroes...

Danny Crane conned the Department of Veterans Affairs out of $7,000 by claiming he was half blind, had once been shot in the back, suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and had 24 metal plates inserted in his face.

Un-fricking-believable!!!

I don't know who's the dumber one, him or the one's who believed him...

And, for a second, I thought he was posing as Curly from the Three Stooges???

Illinois Anti-Gun Legislators return home empty-handed!

The General Assembly recessed today for the Easter/Spring Break. With all the problems plaguing this state, the Chicago Democrats chose to spend countless hours of floor time trying to impose their agenda driven, anti-gun amendments but, they were unable to pass a single anti-gun bill!
With Right to Carry proponents hitting the legislators hard with their "Support Right To Carry" message and an Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day rally that brought an estimated 8,000 supporters to the State Capitol, all House Speaker Mike Madigan could squeak out of the legislators were a few, anti-gun, Chicago-style amendments to various empty shell bills.

The U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has spoken, the clock is ticking away and there are now less than 80 days left to pass a carry law.

The rich keep getting richer...

This year Forbes has uncovered a record 1,426 billionaires. That is 200 more than we found in 2012, another record breaking year. It’s also nearly 10 times as many as Forbes pinned down in 1987, the year we began tracking fortunes around the world.

The group is worth $5.4 trillion, an astounding 17 percent jump from a year ago. The average net worth of a Forbes billionaire is $3.8 billion, $100 million more than a year ago. More than two-thirds of the world’s richest added to their fortunes. - NBC News.com

An American Hero falls...

A former Navy SEAL who wrote "American Sniper," a best-selling book about his lethal career as a marksman in Iraq, was shot to death with another man at a gun range near Stephenville, Texas, on Saturday.
Chris Kyle, 38, and the other man were found dead at the shooting range of Rough Creek Lodge on Saturday afternoon, Texas Highway Patrol spokesman Lonny Haschel told KXAS.
The gunman, identified as Eddie Ray Routh of Lancaster, Texas, was arrested after a brief pursuit, Trooper Haschel said. The other victim was named as Chad Littlefield, aged 35.
Kyle, a Texas native who grew up hunting, served four tours in Iraq with Navy SEAL Team 3. His shooting during battles in Ramadi and Fallujah became legendary, and insurgents nicknamed him the "Devil of Ramadi" and put a bounty on his head.
He was credited with 160 confirmed kills, including one in 2008 in which he said he fired from 2,100 yards away -- 1.2 miles.
The Star-Telegram described him as "America's deadliest sniper."
Haschel said Routh is believed to have shot the victims at around 3:30 p.m. local time (4:30 p.m. ET) before leaving the shooting range and returning to his home in Lancaster in a Ford pickup truck.
The link between Routh and the two victims wasn't immediately clear, Haschel said. The Dallas Morning News reported that Routh was 25 years old and had military training.
"It just comes as a shock and it's staggering to think that after all Chris has been through, that this is how he meets his end, because there are so many ways he could have been killed" in Iraq, Scott McEwen, who co-wrote "American Sniper," told Reuters. - NBC News

While all the facts aren't in yet, it seems to me to be another case of another pyscho with a gun...

R.I.P.

UPDATE: Supposedly, Routh, a Marine vet, was suffering from PTSD. Yet, another person suffering from a "mental disorder" in possession of firearms...

Thoughts on the "Mad Rush"

It never ceases to amaze me how some people just have money to burn! First, it was the "doomsday preppers" pouring money into the Mayan Apocalypse. Now, amidst this time of proposed "gun bans", I keep reading about these people paying outrageous prices for firearms, particularly "assault" weapons. The existence of naive people never ends! These proposed gun bans are not going to make it through the "Republican" House of Representatives, so what's the point???

The big winners in all of this...
As always, the manufacturers!
Pure exploitation. And, you've fallen for it once again...

Mayor Bloomberg and the Jan. 3rd NYPD shootings

“In recent weeks, we've heard some people say that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. But sometimes the good guys get shot – and sometimes, they are killed," the mayor said Thursday night from the hospital where the two officers wounded in the Brooklyn incident were recovering. "Tonight, thank God, three good guys – three New York City police officers, who acted heroically – are going to make it. But we owe it to the good guys to do whatever we can to protect them – just as they do whatever they can to protect us. Instead, Washington is letting the bad guys shoot our police officers, our children, our neighbors – and it just has to stop."

F.Y.I. Mr. Mayor, that "good guy with a gun" might just be a law-abiding CCW holder...

Guns & Fiscal Cliffs...

All this talk about such things as banning assault weapons and high-capacity mags...
What's the point, if I can't afford to buy the guns or the ammo to fill those mags after I'm taxed up the ass, as a proud member of the middle class, from this "fiscal cliff"!!!

Russian adoption ban

I just read an article about the new Adoption Ban that Russia is implementing...

President Vladimir Putin signed a law on Friday that bans Americans from adopting Russian children and imposes other measures in retaliation for new U.S. legislation meant to punish Russian human rights abusers... As well as banning U.S. adoptions, it will also outlaw some non-governmental organizations that receive U.S. funding and impose a visa ban and asset freeze on Americans accused of violating the rights of Russians abroad... UNICEF estimates that there are about 740,000 children without parental custody in Russia, while only 18,000 Russians are now waiting to adopt a child.

The one statistic that was not mentioned in the article is the amount of U.S. children without parental custody. I would assume that number is also quite large. So, why don't we worry about finding them a home first, which would alleviate this issue...

Mayan Doomsday

And speaking of those "serious" gun owners...

...the brain-washed "doomsday preppers" who have fallen for the exploitation of the December 21st doomsday prediction...

Feel free to turn over your guns once December 22nd has come!

FYI...

In 2009, more than 10.7 million background checks were conducted and about 150,000 people were blocked from making the gun purchase they tried to make.

From 1999 to 2009 the largest number of denials – about 900,000, or 56 percent of all denials – was due to a would-be buyer having a felony conviction. In addition, about 15 percent of denials were due to a would-be buyer having a conviction for domestic violence or being under a restraining order. Only about 1.8 percent of denials were due to mental illness.

Under federal law it is a crime to sell or otherwise transfer a firearm to any person who has been “adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.” In addition almost all states have similar laws.

More revelations from Connecticut...

It has come to my attention that the mother who appeared to me as a typical suburban "soccer mom", was a "gun enthusiast" who kept an arsenal. I wish I knew more about her firearm training and state of mind, because IMHO anyone who gets shot by their own gun in their own bed should not have been in possession of a firearm in the first place!

Once again, the lack of responsibility never ceases to amaze me...

Major Victory In Illinois!

The U. S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals handed pro-carry advocates a huge victory in a 2-1 ruling today. The court declared the state's ban on the Right to Carry unconstitutional. The court remanded Shepard vs Madigan and Moore vs Madigan back to their respective U.S. District Courts with a directive mandating the courts deem the ban unconstitutional and ordered them to grant a permanent injunction against the ban in both cases. The 7th Circuit justices also granted a 180 day stay on that decision to allow the state legislature time to pass a reasonable Right to Carry law.

Tactical Apparel for the Top 1%...

I was reading a fellow blogger's list of tactical "conspirator" recommendations and came across the company Arc'teryx LEAF and immediately clicked on the link. The homepage opened and then I in turn opened the link to their "Men's" section and I couldn't believe my eyes! Prices that were OUTRAGEOUS! We're talking tactical shirts, pants, etc. for well into the hundreds of dollars! Now, don't get me wrong... they may be worth every penny in some way or another; but, I'm still trying to figure out who they're catering these prices to... "soldiers" living on "soldiers" salaries or the top 1%? Which, as far as I remember, weren't one in the same...

300 AAC BLACKOUT...

My thoughts on the 300 AAC BLACKOUT?
Simple.

I would still opt for the 6.5 Grendel...

Runnin' and Gunnin'...

I came a across a unusual question on a Shooting Forum. A person asked whether he should be in shape for a basic rifle shooting class that he was interested in taking. Right there, the red flag went up in my head! I'm a stickler for being in shape. I don't mean olympic or professional athlete shape. Just good shape. Especially, when your profession or hobby calls for it. If you want to play weekend warrior, you should be somewhat in shape like a warrior before you start runnin' and gunnin'. I'm disgusted, when I see cops who are overweight and firearms instructors who's bellies are hanging over their gun belts. Lead by example and get in shape! Use the job or sport as incentive to get yourself a little healthier...

An Observation...

I see it all the time...

Uniformed beat cops standing in plain sight using their cell phones while on duty. Official police business? I don't think so.

In my opinion, if you want to use it, use a little more TACT (in addition to TACTICS) and step out of view of the pulic eye when using it.

Besides, being observant of what's going on around you is one of a beat cop's main duties, not who's responding to you on your facebook page...

An Observation...

What amazes me is the outrage voiced by the Afghans in response to the murderous rampage of an American soldier. Not that it isn't justified, for it greatly is. But, what's puzzling to me is the notion that if the Afghans would've expressed this much outrage towards the insurgent Taliban, this war would've been over a long time ago...

6.5 Grendel - All the Way!

I'm a firm believer in the old saying, "Why fix something that's not broken." And in my humble opinion, with regards to the AR15 platform, the 5.56mm NATO round falls into that category. Whether you're shooting 'target' ammo in 55gr., 62gr. greentip, or reaching out and touching with the 77gr., you've got the job pretty much covered from 0-500 yards. Especially for all you "zombie" fanatics, if and when all hell breaks loose, I'd rather have a rifle chambered in a round that's gonna be readily available. So all you 6.8 SPC's, 300 AAC BLK's, etc. can take a hike! Unless, of course, you're one of those gun lovers who has to have one of everything...

But, and I do mean but, if want your AR15 platform to cover the broader 0-1000 yard spectrum, you've got only one choice... the 6.5 GRENDEL. Supersonic out to 1,400 yards! Top that Mr. .308! Don't get me wrong, the .308 (7.62mm) has its place. But, when you can get similar performance out of a smaller and lighter platform, it's a no-brainer! Competition, CQB or sniping. Mission accomplished.

Gun Politics in Illinois

An editorial in today's Sun-Times brought up a good point...

"One of the biggest issues in downstate politics is guns. Downstate legislators in both parties use the issue to whip up their constituents so they'll ignore their own shortcomings. The same thing is done by Chicago politicians, only in the opposite direction... It's a tried-and-true-issue they've used for years to distract voters from the many failures of this government."

All about gun control? I don't think so. Just politics as usual...

Quick thoughts...

Quick thoughts on news this week...

1) Jeremy Hammond, anti-capitalist "hacktivist", was arrested Monday night in an FBI raid and accused of stealing confidential data from hundreds of thousands of people, including a former vice president of the United Sates and a former CIA director. His mother said he was a brilliant computer wiz but apparently couldn't stop himself from applying his genius to "get the goat of America."

What a waste of intelligence.

2) Regarding the Oscar-winning film "Saving Face" debuting Thursday on HBO bout men in Pakistan who feel entitled to throw acid into the faces of their wives.

Just another reason...

3) A woman was struck and killed by a Metra Rock Island train Wednesday in Longwood Manor. Supposedly, the woman was wearing media earphones at the time of the accident.

Just as you see it all the time on the streets and in vehicles, a total disregards for one's safety and life.

An attempt at more Gun Control in Illinois...

Chicago Mayor "Rhambo" Emanuel wants Illinois gun owners to register all their guns for $65 a piece, and renew that registration every 5 years for $25. The proposal is co-sponsored by that dried-up duesch state Rep. Rosemary Mulligan (R-Park Ridge). Emanuel says, "You use your political capital for the the tough things that are the right things to do." Well Mr. Mayor, 49 other states who have CCW can't be WRONG can they???

Spike Lee speaking at Chicago State University, Feb. 8, 2012:

"We're talking about an age where peer pressure can be devastating. Today, if you get good grades or speak good English, you're made fun of and called 'white'. But if you're on the corner drinking a 40 of the malt crack liqour, smoking a joint, pants sagging below your ass, then you're hip, you're black, you're gangster, you're ghetto. But what you really are is ignorant."

Gun Shop Heist

Chicago Police officers nabbed four gangbangers connected to the theft and illegal sale of hundreds of firearms from a suburban gun shop. The burglars used a sledge hammer to break through the door of Maxon Shooters Supplies & Indoor Range in Des Plaines and smashed the glass in the store’s display cases Sunday, stealing more than 200 handguns.

A sledge hammer is all it took to break into a gun shop and get away with hundreds of guns???

Handgun Preference Pt.2

And, for those who want to kick it up a notch, consider a Glock chambered in the big bore .45. For example, you'd be surprised by the fit and accuracy of the "subcompact" Glock 30SF which can fill the role of both a service pistol or concealed carry.

Monday, January 2, 2012

Handgun Preference

I always hear the question on different forums, if I could only own one handgun, which would it be? And in my opinion, for the novice shooter the answer doesn't get any easier... A striker-fired semi-automatic pistol. And, they don't get any better than the Glock - "Tactical Tupperware" at it's best! Easy to use, accurate, extremely durable, ultra reliable and reasonably priced! They may not be the prettiest, but they get the job done!

As far as caliber goes, you may have read one of my previous blogs promoting the .45 acp which I personally prefer, but for the beginner, I would stick with 9mm. Cheap in bulk to keep the practicing more cost effective, and it serves as a good personal defense round in its many hollowpoint forms. Then, there's a few sizes to choose from starting with the smallest or what they call subcompact G26 with a 3.43" barrel, the compact G19 with a 4.09" barrel, the standard G17  with a 4.49" barrel or for competition, the G34 with a 5.31" barrel. All of their mags are interchangeable too, from 10 rounds up to 33! Depending on the particular uses you want to get out of it, whether for home defense, CCW or competition, one of them should serve admirably!

Manhunt in Mt. Rainier

24-year old Benjamin Colton Barnes is a "strong person of interest" in the slaying of a park ranger at Mount Rainer National Park, Jan. 1st. He is believed to be well armed and have survivalist skills.

What a way to kick off the new year with another psycho p***y with a gun! And, to think he wore the uniform... What a disgrace!!!

UPDATE: DEAD! His body was found Monday in a river, with two weapons and no wounds on his body which probably means he froze to death...

Great Commercial

Occupy Wallstreet

In my opinion, the OCCUPY WALLSTREET movement is justified. Being a member of the MIDDLE CLASS, working and paying taxes, I agree with the "What about the 99% who bailed out the 1%, now it's your turn" idea. That's what its all about... the MIDDLE CLASS getting screwed! What's wrong is what's typically depicted in the media and criticised: a bunch of unemployed degenerates jumping up and down and crapping on the American Flag, a total misrepresentation of the hard working taxpayers of the MIDDLE CLASS, the real 99%! Unfortunately, they can't attend these rallies because they're too busy working! So, all of you criticisers get it straight, no matter what side of the 'aisle' you're from! Most of you are the MIDDLE CLASS, including the ones with the pepper spray... The 6.5 Grendel Is An Official SAAMI Cartridge

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute ("SAAMI") has adopted the 6.5 Grendel as an official SAAMI cartridge. As a result of the cartridge's official recognition, ALEXANDER ARMS® will relinquish the trademark "6.5 Grendel."

Bill Alexander states: "One of the primary purposes of trademarking the name was to protect the integrity of the design. With the adoption of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge standard by SAAMI, the design is now protected and any confusion in the marketplace as to the specification of the cartridge has been eliminated."

SAAMI's formal adoption of the design specifications for the cartridge has led ALEXANDER ARMS® to announce that it will relinquish its federally-registered trademark and that "6.5 Grendel" is to be the common commercial name for a cartridge that adheres to the specifications adopted by SAAMI.

ALEXANDER ARMS® is proud that a cartridge of its design has received this important designation and is pleased to take this important step in the continued market development of this breakthrough cartridge, which is perfectly matched to the AR-15 platform.

Since Osama bin Laden is taking a dirt nap, this little guy known as "Shorty" is at the top of the list for America's Most Wanted. He's Joaquin Guzman, head of the Sinaloa Drug Cartel in Mexico. 2nd Amendment on a limited budget

In addition to promoting the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution, I also would like to see this blog promote the exercising of this right with thoughtful recommendations for the 'common' law-abiding citizen. What do I mean by 'common'? Well, I'm refering to the person out there whose enthusiasm in firearms is hindered by these economic times or is just simply 'married with children' and just doesn't have a large budget for this somewhat expensive interest. I see so many gun fanatics out there, such as ex-military/LEO, showing off there high-end guns and assessories, offering expensive training, and having shooting ranges for backyards, while spewing off big dollar recommendations who seemingly have unlimited resources on a 'cop's salary'. That's fine if your use of firearms is for business and have a big budget, but for the common law-abiding citizen who shoots for recreation, home defense or concealed carry there seems to be less consideration. All of this can be a little intimidating. I find it more interesting and probably more challenging on their part to also promote firearms, equipment and training for shooters on a limited budget. Which is one of the directions I'd like to take this blog in pointing out valuable resources that do exist out there for such a crowd... GETTING A BIGGER BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!!

Another one bites the dust...

Joint Special Operations Command strikes again! Another high-ranking member of Al Qaeda, Anwar al-Awlaki, takes a dirt nap at the hand of Predator drones of the JSOC. President Obama said:
The death of Awlaki is a major blow to Al Qaeda's most active operational affiliate. He took the lead in planning and directing efforts to murder innocent Americans ... and he repeatedly called on individuals in the United States and around the globe to kill innocent men, women and children to advance a murderous agenda. [The strike] is further proof that Al Qaeda and its affiliates will find no safe haven anywhere in the world.
As I've always believed... The War on Terrorism isn't a 'conventional' war that should be fought with thousands and thousands of troops. It's an unconventional war that should be fought by a group of select few who are experts in this business, the Joint Special Operations Command, who can accomplish these missions with surgical precision.
